Youth Volunteer Connections

In partnership with over 70 nonprofit organizations, The Volunteer Center connects school-age youth with youth-friendly volunteering opportunities. Each youth volunteer works directly with the Youth Programs Coordinator to find the perfect service opportunity for them. Some questions to ask in discovering the right opportunity are:

  • What are you passionate about?
  • What are you interested in learning more about?
  • What issues in your community are you concerned about?
  • Do you enjoy working with children, adults, seniors, or people with disabilities?
  • Do you like working in indoor or outdoor environments?

Every youth volunteer can have a volunteering job that is worthwhile and challenging. Connecting youth with the right opportunities will allow them to make the most out of their volunteering experience.

Did You Know? – A study by the Corporation for National and Community Service, in collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau and the nonprofit coalition Independent Sector, found the following facts about youth volunteers:

  • An estimated 15.5 million youth – or 55 percent of youth ages 12 to 18 – participate in volunteering activities; the teen volunteering rate is nearly twice the adult volunteering rate of 29 percent.
  • Students who report doing better in school are more likely to be volunteers than students who report doing less well.
  • Only 5 percent of youth attribute their volunteer activities to a school requirement.
