VCYC Volunteer Center Youth Coalition

In the 2010-2011 year, the Volunteer Center Youth Coalition contributed over 3,100 hours of service to the community!

Founded in September 1999, the Volunteer Center Youth Coalition (VCYC) empowers and mobilizes youth from 17 different South Bay high schools with information and training on effectively promoting positive social change in the community through meaningful volunteerism and active citizenship.

As members of VCYC, teens are given the opportunity to collaborate with other high school students in identifying the needs of the community. In understanding these needs and how they can be addressed, VCYC members plan and coordinate regional service projects to benefit these causes.

Each VCYC member serves as a representative of VCYC and The Volunteer Center by generating enthusiasm for service projects on their campus and recruiting volunteers to support these events. VCYC members advocate for youth volunteerism by actively participating in community service projects and ensuring greater access to volunteer opportunities for everyone at their schools.

Why VCYC?
There are many reasons for a teen to become a VCYC member. By joining VCYC, teens will develop leadership and workplace skills, practice effective problem-solving and learn civic responsibility while raising awareness about youth as assets in society. VCYC is also a unique opportunity for teens to receive special training from occasional guest speakers. Furthermore, a student can have a competitive edge when applying for college or employment using the demonstrated experience they gained as a member of VCYC.
