Valero Wilmington Refinery makes a big impact with the Volunteer Center. For the past 14 years, Valero has donated to the Operation Teddy Bear Program, a program that provide backpacks to first grade students in Title One elementary schools. Valero volunteers also assemble backpacks and make deliveries to local schools in the Wilmington area. Mark Rodriguez, Valero Design Engineering Supervisor, has organized ‘Surf for Charity” events to raise funds for local charities including the Volunteer Center. Valero is the first California refinery to earn U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration Star Site certification, the agency’s highest plant-safety recognition.

Toyota has had a longstanding relationship with the Volunteer Center. In 1993, Toyota gave us a generous grant for $200K toward the purchase of our building. It has been wonderful working with Toyota and Tracy Underwood. We are grateful for Toyota’s sponsorship of this year’s Corporate Volunteer Awards Banquet, as well as four others in the past.
